Top 5 Bridal Makeup Tips For Oily Skin

The wedding season is fast approaching, I’ve been a busy bee this month with bridal makeup trial bookings. Alot of clients book me because they want there makeup base to be completely flawless on there wedding day. Some of my clients have an oily skin type, which is a particular concern because often shine can appear or pores can be enlarged. As a bridal make up in Manchester
I believe it’s really important to absorb shine without taking out the light and radiance from the skin.

Top 5 tips to create make up longevity for a bride with oily skin

1. Apply oil free skin care and make up products, its important to not add extra oil to your skin

4. Prep with a primer to absorb excess oil and ensure your foundation won’t slide off

3. Avoid cream blushers as they may not show up or sit on your skin as well as powder blushers

If you have oily skin avoid blishers with shimmer

Avoid blushers with which shimmer

4. Don’t apply a highlighter to your nose, chin or upper lip, instead focus on your cheek bones and temple

5. Remember to finish with a pressed matt powder and keep it to hand, pay extra attention to your t-zone

Finally the only other thing I’d recommend is that you book a makeup trial in the morning so you can see if the makeup lasts through out the day. Whether your a bride this year or next year I hope you have a very happy wedding day!

Flawless Bridal Make Up Tips

Every bride-to-be wants to be sure there make up stays in one place on her wedding day. Between heat, tears, rain, and lots of hugging, it’s easy for your make up to smear and smudge. As a bridal make up artist in Manchester I like to read top tips from other make up artists, Here are Alexa, of The Glam Fairy, top 10 tips for making sure your make up last and looks great in photographs through out your wedding day.

1. You want a great primer with a silicone base. Silicone fills in fine lines and blocks the sebaceous glands from producing oil so using that as an anchor underneath all the make up makes sure it stays put all day.

2. Foundation: The biggest mistake that brides make on their special day is using a foundation that is not light responsive, meaning it is not absorbing and deflecting light in a way that makes you look great for photos.  You need a foundation that mimics the way light bounces on your regular skin so you always want to make sure your make up artist or you do a trial to make sure your foundation doesn’t drop any lighter than your normal skin shade.

3. Neutral shades of eye shadow, no bright colours because you want your look to be elegant

4. Use water resistant mascara

5. Add a little bit more bronzer and blush than you would normally think, because it wears off throughout the day

6. Make sure your eye liner is waterproof. I like M·A·C’s Powerpoint Pencil, it’s amazing!  You have about 60 seconds of playtime until it sets and then it won’t smudge

7. A brides skin should always have a nice fresh glow.  Products like M·A·C Strobe Fluid and M·A·C Mineralize Skin Finish, placed directly on the cheekbone give off a great cheek highlight

8. Prep the skin with a great moisturizer and face mask, keeping the skin in tip top condition is key

9. De-puff and cover dark circles use a concealor that reflects and hydrates your eye area

10. Seal it. Get a sealing spray to set everything and make it stay all day long.  I love Motives 10 Years Younger Spray, Model in a Bottle, Makeup Forever Mist and Fix, and M·A·C Fix Plus spray.  It basically sets all your work and keeps everything from moving.

Bridal Makeup Trends 2012

I believe the key to creating perfect wedding make up is having a fantastic make up arist with amazing listening skills. Communication is really important when it comes to interpretating a brides vision of how the bridal make up should look on their big day!

Wedding make up doesn’t have to be a classic brown/gold eyeshadow and pink lip stick. As a bridal make up artist in Manchester I think beauty trends should always be incorporated into the look. Vintage retro 1940’s and 50’s make up has made a come back, think (Audrey Hepburn) red lips and liquid liner look stunning in wedding photographs.

If your a spring bride, pastel shades look gorgeous and create a romantic make up look. For a winter wedding I love to create soft smokey eyes with berry lip shades. Experiment with your make up artist during your bridal make up trial and let them know if you want them to change even the smallest thing. Your bridal make up could also be inspired by shades in your jewellery or wedding dress!

Wedding season is in full swing as a Bridal Make Up Artist in Manchester I’m frequently asked by brides how they can transform their flawless bridal look and adapt it for a glamorous evening look so here’s 5 quick and easy bridal make up tips

  1. Add a second coat of mascara, place the wand at the root of your lashes and use a zig zag motion to thicken and curl your lashes, concentrating on the ends for fabulous fluttery eye lashes
  2. Create drama on your eyes using a black eye shadow in the crease of your eye socket, blend outwards using circluar motions
  3. Next use a highlighter to emphasis your cheek bones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow
  4. Dust a translucent powder over your t-zone to take away any shine and revitalise your foundation
  5. Finally add a high shine lip plumping lip gloss

Kate Middleton – Creating Her Own Bridal Makeup

With the Royal Wedding two weeks away, i’m was so excited to hear who the lucky Make Up Artist creating her wedding make up look would be. Until ‘Elle Magazine’ published a post yesterday suggesting there are rumours that Kate will be applying her own wedding make up. Although it’s surprising for a future Princess not to be pampered by a Make Up Artist on her big day. I can understand it as a lot of Brides still want to look like themselves and feel confident applying their own make up.

If you are a soon to be bride creating your on own wedding make up here are my Top 5 Tips;

  1. Create your eye make up first to avoid any products spoiling your make up base. Gold’s and Plum’s look beautiful on brides.
  2. Check your foundation matches your neck line particularly if you will be using tanning products in the days running up to the wedding.
  3. Keep your base as fresh as you can. Pick an illuminating foundation to create a dewy glow and emphasis your cheek bones, brow bone and cubid bow with a radiance highlighter,
  4. Set the make up base with a Mineral powder to take away any shine and ensure it’s longlasting.
  5. Pick a blusher and lip colour thats slightly brighter than you would normally go for and apply a little more than usual, so that the photos pick up the make up clearly.

Happy Bank Holiday! x x
