Tom Ford Make Up Launch For Men Coming Soon….!

Fashion Designer Tom Ford launched his make up products in Manchester’s Selfridges stores in September 2011. Since then the products have been so successful that he has decided to launch skin care and make up especially for men!

The collection will be available to buy in the Autumn and will include ‘nine multifunctional skin-care and grooming products, including a cleanser, moisturiser, eye cream, purifying mud mask, concealor and bronzing gel’

make up artist manchester

Tom Ford thinks ‘beauty is a potent way for a woman to transform herself, makeup, skincare & fragrance have the potential to enable a real woman to become as glamorous & as inspirational as she can possibly be’

As a make up artist in Manchester I regularly apply make up to perfect mens skin tones, hide redness with tinted moisturiser, cover blemishes with concealor, powder to absorb oily skin, non glossy lip balm and warm up the skin tone with bronzor for photo shoots. I think it’s great when men take pride in there appearance, I know myself and my clients feel much more confident when wearing make up so it’s only fair men should have the option too. Personally I’d be a bit concerened if my husband came home with smokey eyes, I wouldn’t have a problem with him wearing bronzer and I know for a fact he’s pinched my concealor in the past.

Tom Ford isn’t alone as the market’s growing bigger, it’s now more socially acceptable for men to wear foundation and eyeliner. YSL launched an unfragranced ‘Touche Eclat’ for men in 2008, Illamasqua products are designed for both men and women, then earlier this year Marc Jacobs teamed with Sephora to create a range of unisex products.

If you’re interested in Mens gromming you’ll love this demonstration by LA based M.A.C. Make Up Artist – John. He recommends products and offers tips while he creates a natural make up look on himself. To view the video click here.

Bridal Makeup And Eyelash Extensions Aftercare

Wedding season is here and i’ve been busy with bridal makeup trial bookings. I’ve been asked alot recently about eyelash extensions and how to care for them so I thought i’d write a short peice with some usedul tips…..

Eyelash extensions are applied in salons by specially trained therapists. Individual synthetic lashes are carefully bonded to your existing lashes. They last around 8 weeks and will naturally drop out, you can go back to the salon to replace the ones you have lost.

  1. For the first 24 hours after getting lash extensions, the adhesive is still setting – so don’t touch them or get them wet
  2. Be gentle, avoid rubbing your eyes, you may pull out your natural lashes
  3. If you use make up products around your eyes ensure there oil-free.
  4. Don’t perm or curl your lashes and avoid mascara as this will shortern the life
  5. Keep your eye area clean to prevent eye infection

If possible try to get a friend or family memeber to recommend a therapist and have a patch test completed a minimum of 24 hours before.  For more advice check out BABTAC.

Lippy Ladies – Lead In Make Up Doesn’t Cause Cancer

A family member forwarded an email to me at the weekend which said it was from a Dr. Nahid Neman who works in the Breast Cancer unit at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto. The email claimed that some cosmetic brands are selling lipsticks containing lead and it can cause cancer. As a Make up artist in Manchester I thought it was really important to share the information with you as I was shocked at what I read, the email circulating is a prank. There are always rumours that spread claiming deodorant and ingredients in make up can cause cancer and it simple isn’t true.

“The UK has strict laws about the production of cosmetic products. Manufacturers cannot sell a new product to the public before it has been safety tested. An organisation called The Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) provides information about regulation of cosmetics in the UK. Lead is banned from all cosmetics, apart from hair dyes” (Cancer Research Uk)

Next time you go shopping for make up and you see an ingredient on a label that concerns you, check out CTPA cosmetic regulations here. x

Suffering From Hayfever = Make Up Nightmare?

If you’re suffering from hay fever, it can be hard to keep your make up in place as a result of symptons such as; sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes. If you’ve got a special occassion/interview/first date coming up and you need your make up to look flawless, dont panic!

I’ve put together a few product suggestions along with some great techniques you can use to create longevity.

  1. Apply an eye base to keep your eye make up in place such as Pixi Eye Bright Primer (£12.50)
  2. Stick to neutral/warm tones, purples and pink tones shades will enhance the redness in your eyes
  3. Use a creamy or liquid eye shadow as it’s less likely to smudge such as Bobbi Brown Long wear (£16.50)
  4. Define your lashes with a Mascara that contains no fibres or fragrance, try No7 Sensitive Eyes(£11.50)
  5. Buff Mineral Foundation and powder onto your skin, it won’t slide off and is brilliant for sensitive skin. I use Bare Minerals Original foundation as it contains 100% minerals (£23)
  6. Carry a pot of vaseline with you to moisturise dry areas around your nose and help prevent pollen from entering your nostils
  7. Pick a bright lipstick to place the focus onto your lips, not your eyes.
  8. Take care when removing your make up in the evening, use gentle fragrance free skin care and soothing eye make up remover.

Did you know some experts recommend eating locally produced honey, to help ward off hay fever symptoms? x
